I love garlic. There’s no getting around it. Sometimes called the “nectar of the gods,” garlic is great in many dishes and it’s good for you. It can help reduce high blood pressure and kill the common cold. It’s worth a lot more than flavor.
1. Garlic lowers your cholesterol.
Garlic inhibits the same enzymes that high cholesterol drugs do without any side effects. Cheaper too. It’s also an antioxidant that helps reduce LDL, or bad cholesterol.
2. Garlic helps fend off cancer.
Particularly stomach and colorectal cancers. About 164,000 Americans are diagnosed every year with one of these types of cancer, and is one of the top ten causes of cancer deaths. Garlic may also reduce hematological cancers.
3. Garlic lowers your blood pressure.
Garlic can help relax smooth muscles like your arteries, thus helping them dilate and relax.
4. Garlic helps prevent blood clots.
Garlic can work as a blood thinner and anti-thrombotic, thus helping prevent blood clots. Of course, if you’re at a high risk for clots, see a physician about a medication to use in conjunction with garlic.
5. Garlic is a cure for the common cold.
Sort of. Sometimes colds hit you harder than others. One of my remedies is making garlic tea. Makes your breath smell like death and tastes pretty rough but it helps kick the cold out of your body. Simply crush up a couple cloves of garlic in a cup of hot water, allow to steep for about 10 minutes, and drink.
